A glimpse of Africa...and playing catch up!

Hey everyone!

My new buddy!

Well, I didn't anticipate taking the rest of January off from blogging after my trip but things happen, ya know? It was a bit tough getting back into the normal swing of life after a month away in Africa! Not to mention, for about a week and a half, most of my computer time was spent editing photos. So. Many. Pictures.

Anyway, our trip was freakin' AWESOME! Africa was gorgeous, particularly Cape Town and Table Mountain. It was insane being so close to animals on our safari, knowing that they weren't behind any cages. We rode huge African elephants, pet and walked with 22-month-old lions, white water rafted (and flipped!) on the Zambezi River, and visited Victoria Falls, a childhood dream of mine.

And of course, we ate lots of different food thanks to our camp cook, the few restaurants we were able to try, and through checking out local shops. I'll be doing a blog post about those in the near future.

All in all, if you ever have an opportunity to go on a safari, do it. I knew it was going to be an amazing trip but it ended up being far more incredible than I ever imagined. And boy, did I end up feeling very small. Throughout the entire visit I felt worlds away but it truly hit me hard during a sunrise walk through the bush of the Okavango Delta, looking at a giraffe and zebras about 50 yards away, on Christmas Eve morning. It was one of the best life experiences I've ever had.

No cages or fences here!

Almost two months away from blogging means that I have a TON of catching up to do here at MassachusEATS. Besides Africa updates, I have lots of eats, restaurants, and other stuff to update you on so it won't be quite as barren here. But, in the meantime, here are a just a couple of photos from our trip. :)

  1. Welcome back, and I can't wait to hear all about your South Africa trip. Those photos are off the chain and hanging with a lioness is total badass. I would have loved that, and I would have loved being so up and close with all the free and free roaming animals.

    1. Thank you! If you EVER have a chance to go on a safari, DO IT! It was amazing being there, so far from everything I was used to and being that close to these animals I'd only ever seen in zoos!! :)
