Happy Fried-Day! (November edition)

Well, they couldn't have made this look any more inappropriate if they tried...

That is "The Ripper" from Fab Hot Dogs in Reseda, California.

At the time, I'd thought that this was something Fab's came up with but apparently it's actually a New Jersey thing. "The hot dog is deep fried in oil until the casing bursts, or 'rips,'"(1) which is how the name originated. I didn't think it tasted any different than a regular hot dog, but it was still cool to check that one off of the list!

Although now I totally want to find a hot dog that has been dipped in batter and then deep fried...

(1) Thank you, Wikipedia. Is there anything you don't know?

  1. We had the "ripper" from Rutt's Hutt. Can I mention how disappointing the whole mess was? AND, we went because it was so raved about on the Food Network.

We've tried two of their recommended places and came out disappointed BOTH times. If you are ever in Hatboro, PA don't bother with DaddyPops either.

BUT, if you get to Orlando I certainly can recommend Hot Dog Heaven. Best Chicago dog in town.

    1. Thanks for the tips! I love me a good hot dog so I'll check it out someday hopefully!

Its always disappointing to visit a hyped place and then it stinks - though word of mouth from people seems to be more reliable!
