Ubiquitous but never passe, deep fried ice cream seems to be Chinese food joint staple. (Aside from the red Jello that most buffets seem to stock. Why is that?)
It is a match that seems unlikely. Impossible, even.
A cold, creamy ice cream center. A warm, crispy outer shell.
How the heck does the ice cream not melt as soon as it hits the hot oil?
Of course, there's a scientific reason behind it. But why take the mystery and fun outta the treat? Let's just dig in and enjoy a most perfect mash-up of savory & sweet, crispy & creamy, and hot & cold!
(The deep fried ice cream shown above was enjoyed at Asian Ginger in Foxboro, MA.)
