Before I share my WIAW eats for the week, I have fun news to share. On Saturday, I will be running my first ever race! While it is only a 5K, it is shaping up to be a pretty interesting one:

Not only will we need to run the 5K, we also have to complete a bunch of different obstacles...all while avoiding zombies who want to eat your braaaain! [The zombies try to rip flags off of your flag football-style belt aka your "life."] I'm super pumped to participate in such a crazy-sounding activity - it should be a great time!
Should be...jeez, listen to me! It WILL be...especially because it is also Cinco de Mayo and that means chips & salsa and margaritas afterwards! ;)
Anyways, let's get to the real reason you're here. In an effort to shake things up, I took a different approach to my WIAW this week. You see, I usually document the foods I eat during the week, which is decidedly more healthy than my weekend eats. So this week, I snapped shots of what I ate on Saturday!

Breakfast: Oatmeal w/ cookie butter, banana, ground flax, and chia seeds; cantaloupe; green tea
Okay, so The Oats are back. I felt that a one-week WIAW reprieve was enough ;) And anyway, I did switch breakfast up - I added cantaloupe! Haha
Snack: A cookie dough Luna protein bar
I sampled this recently at the supermarket and was surprised that it was actually good! (The PB flavor is too.) I usually dislike protein bars because they either have a gross taste or unpleasant texture. In any event, this tided me over while my babe and I went to the movies to see Safe.
Lunch: Pearfect Martini; BBQ Pork (top) and Marghertia (bottom) pizzas
After the movie, we went to Tavolino for lunch. I love this place because of their delicious thin-crust pizzas and fabulous drink menu. The martini had a very strong pear flavor but it was very refreshing!
The Margherita pizza was good, though it could've used more basil, but the BBQ pork pizza was awesome. It was topped with pulled pork, applewood bacon, jalapenos, balsamic BBQ, pepper jack & mozzarella cheeses, and red onion rings. Yummy!
No pizza is ever complete without a healthy sprinkle of crushed red pepper! <3
Dinner: Sapporo, honey-barbecue spareribs, Kung Pow chicken w/ brown rice
Well, lunch kept us pretty full so we refrained from any afternoon snacking. We went out again for dinner, this time to Mai Pearl. I'd never had a Sapporo so decided to give it a shot. It was alright - definitely a lot different than the other beers I usually drink.
The honey-barbecue spareribs were something we had heard mentioned on the Phantom Gourmet a couple times before so naturally, we had to try them. The Kung Pow chicken was tasty, but definitely needed more heat! I'm a gal that loves her spice!
How'd they know? ;)
I flipped up these banana pancakes for Sunday morning breakfast.
A steaming hot bowl of "tootlings." Homemade tortellini, my great grandmother's recipe.
We bottled up our raspberry home brew. Only a few more weeks until we can taste our results!
Wow, a long post today - I hope I didn't lose ya back there. Full reviews on both Tavolino and Mai Pearl will be coming up in the future, so check back. Happy Wednesday :)
Are any of you running the zombie 5K or in any other upcoming races?
Congrats on your upcoming 5k-- have a blast! The zombies should definitely keep it interesting. Mmm, your pizza looks delish. I always add crushed red pepper, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm hoping to escape with my brain intact ;)
Deletethat is so cool that you made your own brew!
ReplyDeleteThanks :) Its a pretty fun process!
DeleteI have heard of that 5k... it sounds like such a good time! I can't wait to hear what you think about it :) Very cool on making your own brew too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tessa! I hope its as fun as it sounds haha :)
DeleteSapporo is great beer! So is King Fisher (Indian). Nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I've never had - or even heard of - that beer. Will have to keep an eye out for it :)
DeleteGood luck with your 5k!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteCrushed red pepper- YES, but not too much.. I usually put on too much and it ruins my slice. Needs the happy balance :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm a heat freak so I probably overdo it haha! But it certainly does add a great flavor :)
DeleteWOW....what an amazing food-day. All your eats look delicious :) Have a great 5K!
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks! :D
DeleteYou're running in a zombie race and you brew your own beer? You friend are awesome.
ReplyDeleteLol aww - thank you! :)
DeleteI wanted to run the Zombie Dash but I had already signed up for a half marathon this weekend. It's going to be like "The Walking Dead!" Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm betting that they'll do other ones soon, since it seems to be a popular one. Good luck on your half marathon!!
DeleteOMG that race looks awesome! It's like a Halloween theme! LOVE IT :-)! I also love Lunas and bananas! We have a banana tree in our backyard and it just provided us with SO many bananas! But it's okay, I love them ;). And pizza is awesome, I love spinach on mine. I've never tried crushed pepper, but I love anything spicy soooo I'm sure my taste buds would go "woot woot!"
ReplyDeleteI'm Halloween-obsessed so it seemed to be a good fit lol. How cool that you have your own banana tree! I wish tropical-y fruits could grow around here. And make sure to give the crushed pepper a go - it is a perfect pizza addition :)
DeleteOh wow, that pizza looks amazing. And so do those banana pancakes - YUM! I could have sworn I already commented on yours - I'm sorry I'm a couple of days late. But congrats on the race!! That's so exciting!
ReplyDelete:) Thank you so much, you're too sweet!
